Tatkal Waiting List (TQWL): Confirmation Chances & Refund Policies
Everything about TQWL vs GNWL priority, chart preparation rules, and whether Tatkal waiting list tickets get confirmed.
1. What is TQWL (Tatkal Quota Waiting List)?
When all Tatkal seats in a train are booked, bookings enter TQWL. Unlike General Waiting List (GNWL), TQWL has a significantly lower confirmation probability because it clears only when another Tatkal confirmed ticket on that specific route cancels.
2. Chart Preparation Priority
During chart preparation (usually 4 hours before train departure), general quota cancellations do not automatically clear TQWL unless all GNWL passengers have already been accommodated.
3. Auto-Cancellation and Refund for E-Tickets
If an online Tatkal e-ticket remains on the waiting list after final chart preparation, the system cancels it automatically and initiates a full refund directly to your source account.
